THE NINE BAY SWIM -- PHOTOS AND A REPORT BY LUIS Reply with quote

Luis attempted the Nine Bay Swim during the season of "Hurricane Mean
Dean." He started at 7:11 AM and was pulled out of the water 7 hours
later upon the order of the Port Captain. He will try to swim all
nine bays in November. In the meantime, we would like to thank all
the sponsors in Mexico, USA, and Canada. Reporting for the USA, about
$1,850 was pledged from the states of California, Idaho, Wisconsin,
and the "state of New York City" Wink

If we missed YOU on the first attempt, please consider donating on
his second attempt this November. It would especially be nice to hear
more from southern USA, so "the kids" could be told the whole COUNTRY
is behind them and their school breakfast program.

"The kids" in the photo below; note that some of these kids have
never seen the ocean in front of them until now even though they only
live a few hours northeast of it about 4 hours inland, straight up, I
think! --

Luis has the following message to his supporters --

"Dear Friends and Sponsors,
We would like to inform all of you about Luis Estavillo's 9 bay swim
that took place last Saturday. Luis began the swim at 7:11am from San
Augustin bay. At around 2pm the weather became quite threatening and
the Port Captain closed the port and suspended the swim. Luis swam
for close to 7 hours against a very strong current. People on his
team mentioned that if he had swam the opposite direction he may have
accomplished a record breaking time. We're also certain that if the
Port Captain had allowed him to continue he would have done
everything in his power to finish the swim. Although Luis did not
reach his goal, we still considered the event a success and the
festivities continued. More than 30 kids and adults came down from
the village of San Felipe Lachillo to support Luis and show their
appreciation for his efforts. For some of them it was their first
time to see the ocean.

Luis will continue to train to reach his goal of swimming the 9 bays
of Huatulco. Although we do not have an exact date yet, he plans to
schedule another attempt in November. We want to thank all of you
that supported this cause with your presence, time, and donations. We
will keep everyone informed as to when the next event will be. If
anyone is still interested in participating in donations to provide
school breakfasts for the children of San Felipe Lachillo we will
gladly accept donations, so we can continue this one whole year's
program."

Until next time,

TRI SPORTS CLUB CIVIL ASSOCIATION

Luis and Elva made the trip this past Sunday to San Felipe “ . . . and everything was great . . . the Red Cross (was there) with their toys ,candy and piñatas and a group of people with us from Canada and USA with the breakfast program . . . ,“ said Luis in a recent email. He added, “ . . . we also introduced the reading idea and brought them some story books.“

Some photos were taken using a cell phone and they follow. Luis said other photos are on the way.
