What currency to bring/where to change....? Reply with quote

Hi,

My husband and I are coming from the UK to Huatulco for our honeymoon in just 4 weeks and I am wondering what to do about currency. Would it be best for us to use a credit card to buy currency or should I buy some US dollars travellers cheques and change these into Pesos when I arrive? I read somewhere that the best rates can actually be found at the airport - is that true?

Also how much is it customary to tip for restaurants, bars, hotel staff etc.? (we are not used to tipping in the UK and I don't want to offend anyone!)

Thank you very much!

Nicola

Sterling is great. What a rate! Don't ruin it by putting it into a soft currency such as the US Dollar LOL.

You can change money (UK) at any bank here. There are a lot of ATM's also which are connected (somehow) to the worlds banks.

HSBC is here in the town centre. Best rates I think.

Tipping? Many times the service will be a bit slow and so a 5% will do, if anyone gives that little bit extra then give them 10% There is a local joke that he Canadians don't tip at all. They seem to do alright here.

What's the weather like in Blighty? It is hot here (mid 80's) sunny and medium humidity. It will be lower (the humidity) by the time you get here. It is probably the best time to come here along with November.

Thank you for your advice! Much appreciated.

The weather here is getting colder by the day low to mid 60's so we can't wait to get away! From the weather forecasts at the moment it does look pretty cloudy and stormy over there but like you say it should dry up which is why we booked for October. Smile
